Hour Game by David Baldacci

Genre: Mystery/Thriller

Hour Game is the second book in the King & Maxwell series. A woman is found murdered in the woods of Wrightsburg, Virginia with a zodiac watch on her hand. What looks to be one murder soon spirals out of control as more bodies mount up.

A serial killer is on the loose. The killer is no generic serial killer. For each murder, he copies a famous serial killer and leaves clues as to which serial killer he is copying. His victims all seem random and without any connection with one another. His motives and identity are unknown.

Ex-Secret Service Agents, currently Private Investigators with their own firm, Sean King and Michelle Maxwell have been hired by a lawyer to investigate and defend an innocent man accused of burglarizing an aristocratic family. Their investigation leads right into the murders and a world full of secrets. Will King and Maxwell be lucky enough to solve the case when the killer is always a step ahead of them and has no qualms with killing anyone who comes in his way?

As with the first book, I loved the characters and dialogues of King & Maxwell. They make a good pair! However, I felt that this book is too murder-heavy and can be a bit gruesome to read because of the descriptive details about the killings. It is also rather long compared to the first book and certain parts could have certainly been left out. But the story is well-written and is gripping till the end. When I found out who the serial killer was, I was completely shocked because it was such an unexpected twist to the story that I didn’t see coming. For time sake, I certainly hope the third book in the series is shorter.
